Why is Google investing in the gaming industry?

Entertainment is not the same to all, you have your own medium to detach yourself from the world, be it books, music, movies, math!
We all need it & gaming is just another form, There are millions of gamers out there and lately the demand form the industry is on the rise.
Big corporations have noticed and are geared up to play.

statistics by Newzoo

The gaming industry is booming, backed by a strong community around it.

Streaming services like Twitch, Youtube games, Beam, etc find more than 100,000 new visitors per month and about 10k new content creators.
Its no surprise Amazon acquired Twitch for $970M! back in 2014.
Another clever move by Mr.Bezos, proving the growth of the industry in the years to come.

Mobile Gaming

The age of the smartphone has definitely superseded our expectations.
Smartphone gaming was the smallest segment in the gaming sector when it entered the market. In the past few years, it has grown big enough to leave PC & Console gaming far behind.
The quick widespread and accessibility of the smartphone made this possible, There is also an ever increasing demand for big Titles to hit small screens!
Following the success of P.U.B.G. & Fortnite, Call of Duty, the renowned game is now available on smartphones, although a bit late, its a good move by Activision Inc.
Experts claim the smartphone gaming industry will grow by a minimum of 3%~6% each year, amounting too $82Bn in 2019 & $94.5Bn in 2020!

PC & Console Gaming

Although there hasn't been any major growth in these segments, the retention of platform users says a lot. Large upfront costs don’t bother players who want the best experience in their game.
These segments will bring in $33.4Bn (PC) & $36.4Bn(Console) in 2019.

Why is Google getting into the gaming industry in 2019?
Maybe they learned something from the guys at Amazon, and don’t want to miss out on the fun.

Google and Amazon could have entered the gaming industry earlier and made Billions already, But their full-power attempt even at this stage confirms that the industry is nowhere near its optimum potential and the demand is on the rise.
In my next article, I will be focusing on how block-chain is all set to change the gaming industry.
