Schengen countries have established a list of documents you must provide when entering their region, depending on the purpose of your entry — these requirements are similar in each Schengen state. Here, we provide you with a checklist of what documents must be presented to meet Schengen Visa requirements:

  • Please complete and sign your Schengen visa application form before sending it.
  • Please provide two recently taken passport photographs for Schengen visa consideration, along with two valid passports (with at least three months left before expiration), any older ones with prior visas on them and two blank pages to affix visa stickers if applicable.
  • A flight reservation for visa application or itinerary, with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Schengen states, is needed when applying for visas; some authorities accept itinerary applications but require the original air ticket when collecting them (it is best to double check this situation).
  • Accommodation: If the applicant plans on staying with relatives or friends, evidence of accommodation may be requested by authorities. Hotel vouchers alone do not suffice as proof.
  • Submit proof of payment of a visa application fee of EUR80 (EUR 40 for those aged 6–12). Also, provide evidence that your travel and medical insurance cover up to EUR30,000 of potential medical costs.

Proof of Financial Means, Such as A bank account statement demonstrating sufficient means for subsistence within three months, should suffice — please check with the consular authority in each country, as the minimum amounts required may differ depending on where they come from.

Schengen State’s Consular offices reserve the right to require additional documentation if necessary, such as proof of employment (i.e. letter from employer confirming monthly wages, length of leave taken and length of vacation taken etc.) as well as no objection letter(s).

If the applicant is a student: a letter from their school/college/university confirming attendance.

At any time, a personal interview with the applicant may be requested.

Money Must I Have To Visit The Schengen Area?

Dependent upon the country. For instance, France requires proof that you can support yourself during your stay; without pre-booked accommodation, this amount should amount to EUR120; with pre-paid accommodations, however, this figure decreases to EUR65 or even lower-cost lodging if available.

To obtain a Schengen visa for Spain, you will require no less than EUR100 in savings for each day you plan on spending in the Schengen zone. Assuming you have more than EUR3,000 saved up, most circumstances and lengths of trips will suffice as long as someone sponsors you during their trip.

Steps To Apply For Schengen Visa Application

Here is the step to step guideline regarding the Schengen visa application

Step 1: Check Before Starting The Application

Before beginning your application to the Schengen zone, determine if a visa is necessary and, if so, where to submit one.

Step 2: Gather The Necessary Documents You Need

Applying for a Schengen visa requires various documents, which depend on your travel purpose.

Step 3: Make An Appointment With The Embassy

When you have collected all the necessary documents for your visa application, apply for an appointment at the nearest embassy. Also, try to have a dummy ticket for a visa . Embassy officials may ask you about your plans during the interview.

Once you have all the required documents for a Schengen visa application, make an appointment at the nearest embassy or consulate. Your application should arrive 6 months in advance or no later than 45 days prior to travel.

Step 4:Go For An Appointment

Be on time on the day of the appointment as embassy consulates don’t like to come late for the interview. Officials have a lot of applications. Don’t have too much time for every applicant, so don’t try to divert the concentration of the officials.

Be concise in all your answers. Don’t lie in providing any information regarding you. If any of your information is false, then it may lead to the cancellation of your visa.

Step 5: Collect Your Passport From The Embassy Or Consulate

As soon as your application has been processed, an email will notify you whether it was successful. At this point, either collect it or have it shipped back to your passport — should your application have been successful, the visa will be attached to a page within your passport if approved.
