As someone that hires freelancers — A LOT — all I can say is good luck with this approach. The thing you must remember is that there is a balancing act when it comes to creating a customer pipeline. In my opinion, the best way to ensure your long term viability as a freelancer is relationship building and not rigidity of principal. As a hiring manager, there are literally thousands of qualified freelancers that I can find and hire from all over the world. Its still a buyers market. With that being said, I choose my freelancers based on skills, cost, and relationships (I define relationship as being whether the freelancers is overly rigid/asshole or easy to work with). Make sure these three areas are balanced and you should have good luck in finding great clients. Principals are nice to have, but flexibility is something you better keep in your tool belt as well.
