The Pride Comes Before the Fall
Luke 23:1–12
It doesn’t go into much detail in Luke but in the other gospels of the Bible, it seems to indicate that Pontius Pilate did not find Jesus guilty. In a way, it almost seems as if he is afraid and believes that Jesus is the Son of God. I remember one of the times I read this section, I almost felt sympathy for Pilate and found myself rooting for him to accept that Jesus was God’s son. Knowing the outcome of what happens to Jesus, I knew this wasn’t going to happen but I still hoped that at some time later in the future, in the parts that are not written in the Bible, Pilate finds God and accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior.
However, even as I rooted for Pilate, one issue does remain. I kind of wanted to believe that he was a good man, but ultimately he didn’t make the right decision because he prioritized his status and approval from the public over what he might have believed. The same thing happened with Herod and John the Baptist where Herod couldn’t directly prosecute John the Baptist because of his popularity with the people. I pray that I can lay down my pride and walk in the righteous path.
