Worrying About Income Inequality is Stupid

  1. Purchasing power does change with income inequality. Income disparity = discretionary (luxury) spending and investment — things that are generally off-limits to basic wage earners. These activities skew prices in a big way.
  2. The debate surrounding income inequality is about more than a numerical ‘relative measure,’ or multiplier (i.e. 20X). It’s about whether the 1X can afford healthcare — whether lifespan and income should be connected. It’s about outcomes.
  3. Doesn’t this ignore the other forms of power that come with great wealth?
