I’m a big fan of Seth and agree with almost everything he says but the one line dismissal of Lynda and Udemy is unfair. Perhaps it’s down to the difference between education and training. If I want to learn how to edit videos in Premiere Pro, I’ll go to udemy or Lynda — but this could be considered training, not education. Education in its true sense is about transformation in the individual and this goes deeper than learning how to do something specific- it’s more about thinking differently.
So, whilst I applaud this much needed attempt to bring change to education, it shouldn’t be suggested as a replacement for services like udemy and lynda that provide learning for specific, practical skills, but rather a broadening of the tools available.
