Spirals and Barrels

In the last few months I created some climate visualisations. They seem fairly popular.

In the following posts I’ll go into unnecessary detail about how to create these animations:

It started with this one showing global sea ice area since 1978. It drew the attention of the UN, Greenpeace and Al Gore.
I then added tracks for the Arctic and Antarctic showing how each contribute to the global sea ice area.
I downloaded the images that go with the data and experimented with them.
Tried my hand at some 3D
After thinking about paper drums from seismic recorders I developed the “barrel graph”.
