Preview: DGM Camp Day 1
Day One of DGM Camp will be all about setting up your web property in preparation for marketing. After a brief introduction to the marketing funnel and our TED Talk for the day (We’ll experience at least one new TED Talk each day), we will start from scratch with a new WordPress setup and one of 5 themes, depending on the needs (or desires) of each student or their organizations. We will completely configure WordPress and setup the theme, in preparation for filling the site with great content.
Once the theme is setup, we will install and configure about a dozen plugins, including Jetpack, Mailchimp, Akismet, Yoast SEO, Google Sitemaps, Unbounce, Click-to-Tweet, and Google Analytics. Each of these plugins requires a little or a lot of setup, none of which is difficult. Rather, it’s just new to the new WordPress user. Once the students have completed Monday’s exercises, they will be confident in finding, installing, and configuring just about any WordPress plugin.
That’ll take the morning and part of the afternoon.
Then Kevin Ekmark, CEO of TrustWorkz, will lead the class in how to set up a web property for SEO greatness using Yoast SEO, All in One SEO Pack, and Google XML Sitemaps. Every student will leave Monday with a thorough understanding of how to manage the SEO process and quality of a web property.
Finally, 2015 Marketing Technologist of the Year Nikki Nixon will teach the class the why, how, what, and when of Landing Pages using Unbounce integrated with WordPress. Every marketing campaign should have its own set of landing pages, and Nikki will make sure every student understands why and how to do that.
That’s 10 martech solutions and at least 4 martech concepts on the first day. There are 19 slides for Monday, 8 of which are intro or housekeeping. DGM Camp is not about powerpoints. It’s about hands-on learning martech.
Day 2 of DGM Camp is 100% about Google Analytics. With one cool surprise. Stay tuned!
