Is your song still in you?
We were all born with dreams and purpose inside of us. If you don’t feel like you are living up to your potential, and you don’t know why, this is for you.
Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with their song still in them — Henry David Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau was an American philosopher and author of “Civil disobedience”. He helped unlock the songs of notable figures as Leo Tolstoy, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr.
Wouldn’t it have been a tragedy if any of these guys went to their grave with their song still in them?
Your song is as important and as powerful as any of them.
Your song is unique to you and you are the only one that can sing it the way you do. So how do you release your song?
Too often we quietly drift along the rivers of life with our dreams still in us. We think about great ideas, what we could or should be doing but for some reason we never find the time to do anything about it. We are great at the 9 to 5 jobs, we work hard and deliver outstanding results but when it comes to working on our own dreams we are faced with something that I call “internal lethargy”.
Overcoming internal lethargy for lack of a better word is making sure that your “WHY” is strong. Why do you want to do what you are dreaming of?
This is a key element to create drive and purpose.
If you want something a little bit “out there” on the practical side,…most mornings I shout inside of me…”Wake Up!! This is what we are going to do today because…” and so far it works for me. The because is your WHY!
Today is your best day:
We exaggerate yesterday. We overestimate tomorrow. We underestimate today. — John C. Maxwell
We think that yesterday was the best years that we might never get back, the good old days. Tomorrow we will achieve the impossible but when it comes to Today we are not intentional about it.
The truth is that the most important day you will ever experience is today. What you do today will guarantee tomorrow’s success (or failure!). You need to be intentional about your day. You are the master of your time.
You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce
Fear is often the hidden root of what holds us back. It’s usually shows itself in the form of Perfectionism, Shame or Comparison. Perfectionism will say “I will need to wait till all these aspects of my life are right”. Shame will say “I am so lazy, I’ve waited so long to get this done, now it’s too late. People will realise that I am a ^#*@& if I do it now”. Comparison will say “She is so much better than me, I will never do it as good as that, People will think that I’m copying her and I’m not original”.
Your song isn’t about you
There is nothing more valuable and satisfying in life than releasing the song that’s inside of us. You were created for greatness, for purpose, to impact the lives of others.
However the song inside of you isn’t there for you, it’s there for others to hear. Can you imagine what it would have been like if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t do something about the song that was inside him? No one could have done it like he did it. Someone else could have stood up and defended the Civil Rights Movement but no one could have done it like Dr. King.
My life begins to end when I become silent about the things that matter. — Martin Luther King Jr.
What you hold inside of you is unique, no one else has got the same song. Let it out because your family needs it, your friends needs it,…the world needs it. Today is your day, wake up and start singing!
