Be the entrepreneur you want to see in the world

Some people have a dream of starting their own business and creating awesome product, and who can blame them? The idea is fascinating and actually executing is even more thrilling. But, unfortunately, that’s where most people’s dream die — at the execute phase. I do agree that you need a “viable” plan, to a degree, before you start, but most people just don’t start.

Could it be trends? Probably. Statistics are scary when you are interested in booting up your own startup, but why let that stop you? Being an entrepreneur and trying even though the odds are stacked against you, is the most fun I personally have had so far. Starting KeySpark and travelling down this road has been the best decision to date.

Being an entrepreneur has been so rewarding in little ways. Being able to work with a great team, create great projects, and meet new people — not to mention, the possibility of a solid income. This feeling of exhilaration is not one that I thought would happen, I’ve always been scared to take risks and try something that seems likely to fail. You know, I don’t want to be 90 on my death bed, wondering what could have been had I just started. Heck, I don’t want to be five years down the road wonder “what if”.

What else could it be? Probability/possibility of failure? I think that’s what scares most people. After doing a very quick Google search, a very common number of startups failing is ~90%. That’s a huge number! And most of it happens within the first four years. Instead of looking at those stats and shying away — which I would be lying if I said it never crossed my mind — I put my eyes down and say “Why not be part of the 10%?”.

So What About You?

What’s holding you back? What is stopping you from being a part of the 10% of businesses that did make it? You know what though, even if you did fail, learn from it and start again, nothing is stopping you. So why not get back up and take a different approach? My cousin has always wanted to start a clothing business, but really wants a partner, I have told him many times to start planning. Plan like it’s just going to be himself, come up with a name, brand, market, style etc., and go from there. It doesn’t take much to plan and once you have, you will be better off when the time comes around for you to actually launch.

Now, I don’t know much about starting a clothing business, but everything can be figured out as you go. You don’t have to know everything right off the bat, I sure don’t. But, that is where people in the same market can help you out, read articles, research, you can find what you need to know if you really search.

I agree that it can take a lot of money to start something like that, but in my eyes, if you’re driven, you will find a way, one way or another.

You just have to start.

Be Inspired

I think one of the most famous entrepreneurs, is Elon Musk. With Tesla and SpaceX to name a couple, it makes me excited to see that it definitely is possible to achieve your dreams. Who would think to start their own space exploration company with other companies already established? That takes guts!

In short, what he’s doing, inspires me. I want to be the guy who can start any kind of company that aligns with my dreams, and run it successfully. Now that I have had a taste with being an entrepreneur, I love the feeling, the rush, who knows what will be in store for the future!
