Hmm…yeah I think moderation is good, but I think detachment from the self provides some pretty good objectivity that you wouldn’t otherwise have. So I’d actually argue losing self identity makes you more able to choose the best choices of life. I’m not sure if psychologists would consider that a form of escapism though, similar to denying yourself, which brings hosts of other problems. I guess you have to balance between denying yourself and accepting yourself while losing yourself. It’s a tough balance though.
