Chandler, as a city, was first founded in 1890 and it was named after the iconic vet and real estate professional A.J Chandler. Mr. Chandler was especially popular for his real-estate projects, where he built a full-fledged agricultural canal unit that rendered shape to the area and eventually the city.

Chandler AZ has also been deemed a popular winter resort and it is popular for its sugar beets, oranges (and other citrus-based fruits), and pecans. Cotton and some variants of alfalfa are grown abundantly in the region and cattle are typically raised in the nearby valley, Salt River. Over time, the city dominated the technological sphere with many tech companies setting up their headquarters there, and currently, it is called the Tech Oasis of the Silicon Desert, which is Arizona. As you would probably know, Arizona is a tropical area and has plenty of dry, desert-based areas.

But what exactly is the historical significance of Chandler, Arizona? We will find that out and a lot more in the following section.

Historical Significance of Chandler, AZ

As mentioned already, the city was founded in the late 1800s by Dr. Alexander John Chandler. At that point, he was preparing for his irrigation engineering exams on a ranch in Mesa Valley. Thanks to his expertise in real estate and affluence, over the next decade he could successfully acquire 18,000 acres of land in the area. At that point, the area was known as the Chandler Ranch.

The primary townsite of Chandler is surrounded by Galveston Street, Frye Road, Hamilton, and Hartford Streets. Thanks to these open streets, the town was soon gaining some popularity. In 1913, Chandler, AZ launched its first town center that also featured the iconic hotel, San Marcos. A year later, the Federal authorities developed a High School in the area. By 1920, Dr. AJ Chandler became a prominent figure, and he was assigned the role of the Town Mayer and the President of the town’s City Council.

While Chandler AZ had witnessed many ups and downs (like the Great Depression), it could successfully save itself, thanks to the city and its inhabitants’ immense resilience. However, in the next couple of years, the nation witnessed the Great Cotton Crash and it seemed to have affected the majority of the population. However, despite these many odds, the population still kept surging after the Williams Air Force was developed and within 1980, the city could boast an impressive population of 30,000.
