Whilst I appreciate the sentiment of the article, I’m not sure the persona should find itself in the dock. Rather, it’s the spectacular failure to implement personas properly.
Properly executed personas, when part of a design process, are based on real people from a specific piece of research. In most cases teams aren’t given the chance to apply them properly.
Characters are about story telling. I think Characters are much closer to the made up stories we attribute to a so-called persona.
