My (likely) 2020 SF DCCC Votes

There are two kinds of Americans today: those engrossed by the 2020 election and those who hide from the mere mention of any of the candidate’s names.

I fall into the former, but I envy the latter. Y’all are doing life right.

Wherever you fall on the spectrum, it is coming close to that time where the talking heads spin all the way around as We, the People, vote.

It’s easy to get swept up in the vortex of the presidential race. There’s 20-million something Democrats, including a new age sorceress ready to exorcise Americans crystalized demons, running to convince 65 million or more people they can turn this ship around.

Truthfully, I don’t know what any president can do to stop the transition we’re feeling (and will continue to feel even after Trump), but I do know the only thing that’s ever helped put my mind at ease is local action.

In March 2020, Democrats will also be electing DCCCs — Democratic County Central Committees — to run the party for the next couple of years. It’s a very wonky race, but this year it’s getting a lot of attention.

There are 55+ candidates to fill 24 seats.

In many ways, this is a healthy democracy! San Francisco is blessed (and cursed) with a very active electorate that is excited to engage deeper in the political process. And, the DCCC is deep. (You have to love meetings.)

In other ways, the process has highlighted flaws in the City’s political system.

Most notably, the lack of open avenues for elevating energetic organizers due to a party preference for legacy politicians and backroom strategy. Luckily, there are many folks throughout the City — amongst both the powerful “factions”– who agree that the foundation of the California Democratic party should be filled with organizers doing the work on the ground to create a world that functions for all, and not a very lucky few.

Below I’ve included my current endorsements for AD17 and AD19’s DCCC.

At the bottom, you’ll find links to a complete list of both the “Mod” and “Prog” endorsements. I put this endorsement list together mostly because I could not find a good place listing all the candidates. After I had collected them, I thought I’d share who I think would serve us well on the DCCC.

Happy voting!
