Salt container
The lid of the Kirkland salt container won’t stay shut. It works fine in the beginning, but as you use it, particles of salt get trapped in the lid and the container becomes impossible to close. The lid has two flaps, one for sprinkling salt and one for dumping large quantities of salt. The lid is very shallow, so a single grain of salt is able to do a lot of damage. You would need to rinse out the lid in order to clean it, which means this product is taking up more time for maintenance and is not the most efficient it could be. In terms of learnability and memorability, the container works well. It is very simple to use.
Maybe this lid was chosen because it’s simple and doesn’t use much material, making it cheap and easy to manufacture. One way to improve the lid would be to have a rotating cover that over the top. A portion of the cover could be open so you just move the opening to the side you want to use. This way, you can adjust the salt pouring volume without grain of salt getting stuck and preventing the lid from closing. A downside of this is that one opening would always be exposed. Maybe there only needs to be a sprinkle option, and if someone wants to pour salt they can just unscrew the top. That way the container could be fully covered with a rotating cover, but it would take more effort if you want large volumes of salt. For me though, I don’t pour the salt out through the large opening often. Another way to improve the lid would be to just make it thicker or out of a less flexible material than plastic, so the grains of salt don’t impact it as much.
