Agreed. And it wouldn’t surprise me if you told me that you were holding those meetings huddled around a whiteboard in an active hallway, with everyone standing instead of sitting.
It’s not the meetings that are inefficient, it’s the reflex that says they must last an hour, be held in a room with comfortable chairs, and include a powerpoint presentation.
Always keep in mind that people can read a set of slides 10 times faster than they can be presented. If you want more efficiency, print out the deck, hand it out, and say “ok, let’s take (number of slides x 30 seconds each) to read through this. Then we’ll take the rest of the HALF hour to discuss and make a decision.”
