I think what she means is that they are not the bad guys in this conflict. The US has initiated all of the games of brinkmanship and escalated the situation while they are mainly playing a tit for tat deterrence strategy.

All?

North Korea has made a long series of provocative statements indicating aggressive intent going back two decades. Caitlin Johnstone, in my view, has cherrypicked an assurance from N. Korea that they would not use nukes in a first strike and asked us to take that statement as Holy Writ and ignore the rest of their bellicose behavior.

I prefer another viewpoint, that being that this issue has been a can kicked down the road by multiple presidents over two decades, first with appeasement measures, then by sanctions, all during which the North Koreans have basically been telling us that they’re going to continue their weapons program and MYOB. Finally, this lands on the desk of Trump, who in my view has taken the only course of action open to him when you have a nuclear nation making aggressive statements who possibly have a delivery mechanism that can hit your population centers.

Whatever their faults (and no country is perfect) they have not invaded anyone in the last 67 years while the US has obliterated dozens of countries in that time.

Hence my statement “bad and bad”.

The US is continuing with its belligerence towards them, not the other way around.

Sorry, we’re going to have to disagree. Enough belligerence coming from both sides.
