Now that I’ve imposed myself here, I reckon I’ll do it again.

What I wonder, about folks like you and Kady M. and Svetlana Voreskova and some others, is why you even bother getting into these endless block-quote-breakdown sessions with people who are never, ever going to relent on a single point, just for not doing so’s own sake.

Fair question. Three answers come to mind.

  1. I enjoy the game of forming irrefutable arguments. It’s a challenge.
  2. Many people who lean conservative don’t have the ability or inclination to form strong argumentative arguments for their positions. So, if any of those are in my readership, then I hope I am providing them good material for next Thanksgiving when their niece who majors in gender-studies wants to talk trash at the table.
  3. Many liberals live in an echo chamber where they have never seen a well formed refutation for what they believe; in fact, they are often told that there ARE no refutations for what they believe, that conservatives just hate people, are racists, want sick people to die, etc. I may not convince any of them, but at least they know that there are people out here who not only reject their shit, but have extremely good reasons for doing so, and are fully capable of flushing the toilet their ideas fester in.
