Regardless of what you happen to think of the term, that is the term that is commonly used — so if you want to carry on an intelligible conversation about this you should at least try to understand it.
I reflexively push back against inaccurate redefinition of the English language to suit. I dislike it when people who push back against, for example, homosexual marriage referred to as “-phobic”, because a phobia, which is a scientific term with a specific meaning, rarely enters into equation, if at all.
With regards to this creative use of the term “tribe”, I didn’t hear it used at all WRT politics until this last election, when suddenly the left resurrected it and redefined it to (seemingly) rationalize, in a derogatory fashion towards their opponents, why they lost a very winnable election. Since it’s inaccurate and provocative, I would prefer to simply correct whoever uses it rather than use it myself.
In the meantime, I have no problem understanding what they are attempting to convey by their misuse of the term.
