Some of my family (being that we’re all massive travellers and comfortable outside the US) have used foreign real estate as a wealth store. It denominates you in something other than the dollar, the government can’t track it if you don’t want them to, and if you choose the “resort condo” route, you can get yourself free lodging in paradise a couple of weeks out of the year.

And you easily get 3–4% a year on your money. Do it in St. Kitts, and you get yourself another citizenship, as well. (wink).
