Well, this is the system used in most of the world. I have a niece and nephew in Germany, and because of low grades, they tried to cull him out of the college prep track prior to entering high school and put him in a more general/trades kind of line. He ended up staying in college prep and doing OK, but I believe the tracking you’re talking about is rather common outside of the US.

In the US, of course, we used to do it that way (kind of ) but the schools were accused to tracking kids according to race rather than aptitude, and the wood shops and the auto shops were closed.

Now, you really couldn’t give a kinetic sort of kid a better education than letting him learn diesel engine or A/C repair in high school.
