Birds Get Up Early In The Morning

As is well understood, birds are most active during dawn; they may be noisy and can start flying before breaking of dawn. This is notorious as the dawn chorus and is done for many reasons that are related to survival, biology or purpose from an ecological view.

Feeding is a probable clue why birds wake up earlier than other animals and humans do. Birds are able to take advantage of low insect activity early morning light to feed and avoid cooking under mid morning sun. Flies and mosquitoes are some of the insects that may be caught more easily in the morning because they are not so active as in the other period. Furthermore, early birds that hunt ground worms, experience higher probability of downy success, since worms come up to the surface in response to dew.

It is also easier to listen to one another at dawn than when other distractions are present in the environment. Late at night and early mornings offers little noise interferences and sound travels far is in cool dry air. It also affords birds the nice possibility of asserting themselves and speaking to potential mated mates. In male birds, the level and rate is high especially in the morning to assert its dominance, attraction for females and to chase away rivals.

Another reason that there is early activity is that the birds specifically the smaller species have high metabolic rates and will therefore need to seek for energy frequently. He notes that the fact that they wake up early enough makes them plan on where to get food to meet their energy requirements. That is why it is critical to keep as many hours dedicated to feeding and Other operational activities as possible since daylight hours are scarce, especially in some periods of the year.

Furthermore, birds ‘activity appears to be controlled by internal biological clock or circadian rhythm which is in phase with sunlight wake-up period. It can be assigned the alignment with natural light also regulates their activity for their survival in which they adjust their feeding, mating as well as protection from other predators.

Therefore, birds’ ability to wake up early and get active, depends on the interaction of environment, overburdening survival patterns, and biological clocks.
