“If I had to choose between breathing and loving you, I would use my last breath to tell you I love you.”

“I love you.”

This might be the simplest sentence nowadays most especially that it is easier said than done. But for some people, these three little words are still the most magical sound they can hear and the hardest words they can utter out loud. The most bewildering thing about this sentence is that it is mainly the reason why people end up together, however when it is expressed at the wrong place and at the wrong time, it can also be the reason why everything doesn't take its place the way people wanted it to be. How complicated an ordinary sentence can be? Everything about a relationship merely starts with these three words, that is, when viewed individually might be less important, but when viewed as a whole is as meaningful as life itself.

According to Rastafarian Theology, ‘I’ is a sacred syllable of special significance. Hence, it has a vital role in this sentence. ‘I’ is a crucial word because it represents our individuality, our independence, and perhaps our uniqueness. It is a powerful affirmation and presentation of oneself. It connotes the eagerness and the genuineness of the person about the feeling swirling inside his being. Isn't it usually difficult to be on our feet and face the reality alone? Isn't it sometimes tough to present ourselves and stand with our own principle? But in this case, the person saying those words might have gathered all his strength and courage to persevere the verdict concealed in his heart. So, if a person will stand for love, that person must stand firm for he is bringing and upholding his name whenever the word ‘I’ is being spoken out of his mouth.

‘You’, of course, is a significant part of the sentence as well. Without ‘you’ no feeling will come to light. At times, the absence of it will lead the person sensing the intense emotions to nowhere. It is with whom the extreme feelings are being expressed to. It makes the story of love go round because most of the time the path depends on what the other person might respond, and that will be their destiny. If the fate is in your favor, it might be a blissful ending; if a challenge is presented, a 50–50% chance; but if the odds are not on your side the worse you could end up is tragedy, also known as heartbreak. This is how important ‘you’ is. Along the way, it should be taken care of if the person is really aflame to capture the heart of the one he loves. ‘You’, for the most part, is the one that gives motivation for the person to continue the quest for love. However it also sometimes gives the reason for the person to withdraw his feelings and raise a white flag. As we can see, ‘you’ plays a very tricky part. This only justifies that once chosen; you have to live with everything that goes with it.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails.” This excellent and brilliant definition of love comes from a verse in the bible which is 1 Corinthians 13:4–8. In short, love is a virtue and we must live it within our own little ways and actions. Love is a symbol of eternity. In order for a relationship to work out, both of the people mutually feeling the same emotions must express their love for each other endlessly, wiping out all the sense of time, destroying all memory of a beginning and all fear of an end, at whatever circumstances because love must also be unconditional. It must be the backbone of every relationship. The road might be as rough as the sand and as hard as a boulder but as what the bible have spoken, love never fails. In fact, in my own opinion, the word love wasn't placed between the words ‘I’ and ‘you’ in the sentence “I love you.” just for the sake of rules for language but it was placed in the core of the sentence because it connects the two of them together and also because ‘you’ and ‘I’ will be completely meaningless without love.

I was really enthused by this quote I have read, “If I had to choose between breathing and loving you, I would use my last breath to tell you I love you.” These three words will always be the symbol of love. The sound of these will never fail to spellbind people and take them away to the place where love is bountiful. These words proclaim how marvelous living this life can be with glorious feelings freely flowing around us. What truly is bizarre about this particular sentence is that it expresses a passionate feeling between two people in such a plain and straightforward kind of way. Nevertheless, as simple as it may seem, it contains the most essential elements for a perfect relationship, which is, I think we clearly know by now.
