UCD Charrette

In this very first class, we did the UCD Charrette means all of us experience by taking guises on how to design something useful by tailoring people needs. First we did do some brief mental exercise or brainstorming idea. All of us used sticky notes to express our ideas. Before making a design, we need to create a scenario or typical situation that our users encounter by using our design solution. As for my team, we did design a Enhances Sledge Experience. Users who used this sledge can experience it while maneuvering down the snow hill. The design solution can be seen from the picture below.

This cool sledge, have all these features that are going to help user while sledging.

· GPS navigation- with the help of satellites, user would not lose and can find their preferences location.

· Music- users would not get bored as this feature helps to lift up the mood by providing a list of music playlists or the user can connect it with their phones via Bluetooth.

· Temperature- users can change the sledge heat temperature according their preferences.

· Help- this will enhance users experience if they encounter any obstacles. With help of satellites, they can contact people for any emergency issues.

Early of the class we did do some brief mental exercise or brainstorming idea. All of us used sticky notes to express our ideas. As for me, I did write flying hover board. Though the idea seems crazy, this flying hover board idea had been seen in the movie–Back To The Future starring Michael J. Fox back in 30 years ago, means that, people from three decades ago had this awesome idea despite the idea some lunatic. To me, it’s not wrong to have this cool and crazy idea as long the design that we about to create would fulfill people needs and that’s how important to have human design thinking in order to create solution. The solution don’t have to be an awesome and a brand new one but enough to improve the users experience by making the users feel better with it.

Last but not least, what I like about this project is that we can work in team. Work in a team can develop and generate more idea rather than having this narrowed and confined idea. This project allows us to think beyond our imagination and sometimes we can make it happen. This very first project did expose us on how to practice using human centered design thinking means design or build something according to people needs. One thing that I realized is when everyone has this cool and awesome idea but in the end is how they fit the human satisfaction and needs and how they hope with the design solution can make other people life better.
