I had another publication idea called “The Unionist Papers” which I never got off the ground, because I never actually find time to write. Its funny that, in a way, that was a precursor to me thinking about democratic socialist ideas. Since the word “socialist” is stigmatized in this country, I wonder how an “American re-branding” would work.
Based on the very limited research I’ve done, there was a Unionist Party that actually existed shortly after the Civil War. They eventually fell apart, but the most important thing would be the name itself and losing whatever actual ideology they had, unless it aligned with current ideology. I’ll see if there are any longer articles on the party that I can find.
I think this will serve as an introduction.
I had the idea for a 2017 version of the Federalist Papers. We continue to be a divided country; to the point that its hard to truly say we are united with a straight face anymore. What we have as a country is worth saving. The trick will be to make this argument to everyone, and to convince others to work together in order to save our Union from itself. A tall task.
As long as I stay motivated, I want this to be a collection of short essays that show the value of the Public Good; what I define as the systems and infastructure of our country that will benefit a large number of people.
Wish me luck, and God Bless The United States of America.
