Addiction to Technology

When we say addiction, things like alcohol, drugs, etc. fill up our mind but we forget of things to which we ourselves are addicted to. Our day starts with the snoozing of alarm, followed by reading of unread messages from last night, and tons of notifications popping on the screen of our smartphones and laptops keeps us engaged for the day. The bags of students contains more accessories like headphones, chargers, hard disk, connectors than books and stationery.
Over the past decade technology has progressed very rapidly. It started with the rise of smartphones and highly addictive social media apps and games, soon many industries revolving around smart devices flourished. People really wanted everything to get smarter like smart doors, smart TV, smart watches, smart home, smart WC !! Initially it helped us to do our work at ease but gradually it started distracting us from our work, making us dumb and lazy to significant extent. We use calculators for simple calculations, also we have smart assistants on which we rely a lot like Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant which comes with a slogan “make Google do it”.Children no longer play in parks or grounds they are occupied by TV, video games, and many other devices. This is very serious concern towards their physical, mental, and also emotional development.

As we fall deep into this deadly web it becomes very difficult to come out. We give more attention to this technology than we give to people around us. Over the time we lose our emotions as we don’t spend time with people or the beautiful nature around us and get highly involved in the virtual world created by ourselves. We lose our mind if internet connection is lost for few minutes, and run towards the charger if battery gets low like mad dogs. In this fast world we easily lose our patience develop anger if someone don’t pick the call after it has ringed three to four times. Now-a-days anyone rarely speaks during family dinner, everyone has involved themselves in their phones. It also affects our relations, one can live a day without people but not without their smart devices.
“Anything in excess is likely bad”
Technology is too good if we don’t let it overpower us and use it judiciously. It is made by us to improve our lives and not ruin it. If we don’t overuse our devices and spend some quality time with our family, friends and loved ones it will surely help us lit up our life with joys and happiness.
