Correct. That was way back in 2016. Another fusion reactor being built in Cadarache in Southern France is aiming to sustain it for 5–10 minutes. Considering the secrecy around all Chinese projects, we would probably find out later what was the sustained time.

And as far as safe operation is concerned, the damage would probably be catastrophic & widespread as we have seen from fission nuclear reactors — Does it even matter where the reactor is housed?
