Anyone who knows Chinese policies… nothing works without the blessings of the government in the country. So either they will have to amalgamate their payment systems with the proposed DCEP somehow or conform to the government standards. I don’t think the Chinese government would allow any parallel systems to function on which they have no oversight or control.

Correct. That was way back in 2016. Another fusion reactor being built in Cadarache in Southern France is aiming to sustain it for 5–10 minutes. Considering the secrecy around all Chinese projects, we would probably find out later what was the sustained time.
So far the biggest challenge has been to sustain the reaction in a very controlled environment. Once that has been achieved, only then can we move forward. The risks with nuclear reactions would be significant as you mentioned especially with something that we haven’t tried before. The biggest takeaway, however, remains the bountiful source of energy. This endeavor will probably be a small step in a long process.
