So I actually signed up for Medium after reading this article. I’ve never been to Silicon Valley (save for the series that may or may not be an acurate discription of what gos on there and Betty Lu of course) but I will admit that very few tech articles/videos/blogs really deal with the experience. I honestly don’t give a damn about how many fireflies or snap dragons are inside my iPhone, all I care about is that it is an object of desire, and It makes me ‘feel’ great. I may have torched a few servers remotely from South Africa to San Fran by saying that , but its true, to me……
This is not only one of the best tech articles I have read, but easily the top 10 pieces of writing I have ever come accross. Do I agree with everything you say? Hell No! And thats really the beauty of it, that its highly subjective.
What I know for a fact is that (even as my “Hey Siri” won’t set up) whether its at the local Apple Store in Joburg South Africa , or the mega Hong Kong Apple Store at IFC , Apple is the king of cool……I think you summarised it
“Apple won’t sell the AirPods by enumerating their tech specs but by evoking an emotional, aspirational response — which is an approach vividly different from nearly anything else that comes out Silicon Valley’s burgeoning nerdtopia.”
Thanks for this article bro.
