Hopefully, by now you know the what and why of the UG Inbound Program. Now, we will discuss “ The HOW?

The selection procedure consists of mainly three rounds

  1. Registration
  2. CBT
  3. Interview

Step-1: Registration

The notification about the program was shared by my HOD through our official WhatsApp group and it was also published on our website. The notice was floated on 04th April 2024. There was a Google form that was supposed to be filled out by 10th April 2024. It contained basic details, personal (Name, email, contact, etc.), and academic (college, branch, semester, CGPA, etc.).

I would recommend you keep an eye on this from 1st week of April and ask your department head if they have any information regarding the program. Many students in my batch were not attentive and did not get to know about the program until a few of us were shortlisted.

Shortlisting (CGPA Based)

The shortlisting was done based on CGPA. What should be your CGPA to be shortlisted? Nobody can tell you. It depends on the people who are in your competition. But be assured that the selection will be branch-wise. A total of 50 students were to be selected this year, 10 from each branch. So your competition just reduced to the people from your branch but it also expanded to the people of the same branch but a different college. This time there were these 6 colleges as far as I know:-

  • JEC, Jabalpur
  • UIT, RGPV, Bhopal
  • UEC, Ujjain
  • REC, Rewa
  • IGEC, Sagar
  • NEC, Nowgaon

I don’t think I can publish the exact data but I can give you stats to provide an insight into the CGPA criterion.

Branch-wise CGPA stats of shortlisted students

NOTE: This CGPA is from the 1st to 6th sem. I am from CSE and my CGPA was 8.29

Step-2: CBT

The second round was a computer-based online test.

  • Test duration: 1 hour
  • No. of questions: 25
  • Marking Scheme: +2 -0.5
  • Maximum marks: 50
  • Question type: MCQ (Single correct)
  • Syllabus: Respective Branch’s GATE syllabus

Questions were majorly GATE PYQs. Before the real test, you can also give a warm-up test to get familiar with the environment. The test was conducted in a form-based application.

The CBT was conducted on 30 October 2023.

Shortlisting

I am not aware of the shortlisting criterion for the test. But here is some information.

Out of 58 CSE students, 24 were selected for the next round, i.e. Interview.

Step-3: Interview

I received my mail for the interview on 11 November 2023 and it was scheduled on 16 November 2023.

As you can see, it was an online interview held on Google Meet. You are supposed to submit your resume before the interview. The interview panel consisted of IITI professors and PhD Scholars.

What to prepare?

The interview round is easy if you have been honest till here. The average interview time was 15 mins and the questions were based on your resume projects and research interest. Many students were asked what their favorite subject is and then interviewed on its concepts.

My suggestion would be to go through your projects once and be clear about the implementation. They won’t ask you to code, don’t worry but you should know the approach. You should be able to answer — what, where, and how of your projects. Study 2–3 GATE subjects, at least the basics and important concepts (eg., belady’s anomaly in OS).

Shortlisting

8 of the 24 CSE students were finally selected for the program.

The curriculum dilemma

Provisionally, 50 students were to be selected for this program but right now we are only 23 students in total from JEC(17) and UEC(6). Why other colleges are not here? They were indeed selected, there was no discrimination in the selection procedure. It is because you have to follow a different curriculum than your parent college. JEC and UEC being autonomous could make these changes smoothly. I would encourage students of other colleges to talk to their administration and convince them. Opportunities like these come once in a lifetime and you should not let it go.

I will discuss more on the program, this is just the start. If there are any specific queries, please feel free to contact me. I hope I was able to calm your curious mind :)
