How to end censorship -
Once and for all Even if we remove the censorship policy from the current Web2 social media platforms, will we see a return to censorship in the future given their centralized nature? Is censorship an inevitable act for humanity when given the opportunity? Let’s discuss.
It seems most people on the internet, especially in crypto, agree that there is a need to limit censorship on the internet and especially on social media platforms. Some believe that simply fixing a centralized Web2 platform like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is enough, and with the potential of new management, censorship can be eliminated with new rules. They think a savior can come out and end the censorship madness, and social networks will be free again.
One of the examples being:-
You may not have heard of Andrew Schultz’s Censorship. Frankly, you couldn’t care less. But if you follow our community, you’ll see how Andrew Schultz has fallen victim to the very censorship attacks that we believe pose the greatest risk to the creation of the Internet and Internet freedoms in general.
If you want to know the background of Andrew’s story, how he solves his problem and how Solcial can solve it much better
We at Solcial are not so sure. The main problem we see is the obvious problem with the centralized foundation on which the Web2 platforms are built. Censorship is so easy on current social media platforms, will those who censor even know they are doing it? For example, if you asked the current bosses of Facebook and Twitter, they most likely would not believe that they are censoring the voices of dissent. Big technology platforms justify censorship by describing it as “user protection” or “fake information management”. However, many see it simply as censorship.
Looking at censorship, it seems hard to see when you are censored, and crystal clear when you are censored. This can lead to a vicious circle of censorship between groups. This inherently causes problems and may be the reason why censorship keeps coming back. In one form or another, people have always censored themselves. The problem right now is that one person sees his side as censored, but may censor the other side when he gains power and seeks possible revenge. But why do we always do this? What is it about our human DNA that makes us always have to oppress after we end up being oppressed ourselves?
Even if we eliminate censorship on social networks, how do we know that censorship won’t come back? On Web2 platforms, their roots are centralized and controlled by a select few. So what if the individuals in power change and the new group is not so motivated by freedom of speech? How will freedom of speech ultimately be protected? The short answer is that it is not protected on any centralized platform. The only way to protect freedom of speech, regardless of who is in control, is to build on a foundation of decentralization. Basically, authorize the user and configure the system to have the super majority voice, not the super minority like on centralized platforms.
We can list countless instances of censorship and oppression. We can look at how power has been corrupted and how seemingly good actors have been forced to compromise their values. But what if, instead of repeating the story, we changed it and let the story be told that by building on the principles of decentralization and longevity, we were able to recreate social media and give birth to a future never seen before.
How to fix censorship with solcial :-
Some may think it’s just a dream. They believe that the few will always have the most power, and that centralization is the only way forward. We don’t see it that way. We see a change on the horizon, an appetite for freedom and technology (blockchain) that is ready. It may sound simple, but now we need to build it. The journey has not been easy, but getting it right is the most important thing we do as a team. Solcial is built for people. We bake censorship-resistant elements to secure your speech for generations. It doesn’t matter who “founded” Solcial, it is about you — the USER of Solcial.
This is how we end censorship — once and for all.
