Why We’ll Never Have an Iconic Record Cover Like ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ Again
Anna Horan

While this is an interesting history, it doesn’t address the present or the future at all. We are now in a time when abstract cover art, or art without the band name or album title is actually preferable due to digital services — why put the artist name on the artwork when it’s right there underneath in Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer or anywhere else?

The other big deal is running music services through smart TVs or things like apple TV or Chromecast. Suddenly you don’t have a 12 inch square to play with. It’s a 50 inch plasma instead.

Anyway, lots of opportunities in the future for great, interesting cover art.
