IT is only cool from the outside. From the inside it’s a lot of work at bizarre hours for people who think that they can do your job because they know what a keyboard is. It’s a pretty good living, provided you don’t want inconvenient things like regular sleep or vacations, and don’t mind having to take classes for the rest of your life because all your skills are going to be obsolete in 2–5 years.
If she’s going into the military, it sounds like she’s already picked a path for at least part of her future. The things she spends time on now might net her some quick money, but they’ll burn her in the end when she can’t keep up with the background work of maintaining them. Tech is not a set-and-forget sale, and selling it that way is irresponsible at best.
