The book: Barefoot Gen
A nonfiction book about the author, then 7 years old, and how he survived the bombing of Hiroshima. Though it sounds hard to read (it is) it is also one of the most uplifting series of books I have read.
It is about the strength and tenacity to live.
Here are a few select pages from the series. There are 10 books.
I’m sad this series is so hard to find. Amazon doesn’t really have them all. You can find them in comicbook stores, sometimes. If they don’t, be sure to ask for it.
The Barefoot Gen Project translated these books into a number of languages with the purpose of promoting peace and abolishment of war.
