What is the difference between me and a tree?

I always found the way humans treat trees odd. We seem to put their worth so far bellow ours that they have become mere accessories to our lives Important “for like global warming” but still not treated with as much respect as other talking humans. I believe however that the truth is that in its purest form, a tree is almost completely similar to a human. Take the beginning stages of both our lives. First a tree starts out as young seed, just as we start off as innocent babies. Both, equal, both innocent, both fair. Then with nutrients and care we both grow into healthy individuals. But the split happens here. While a tree continues to live in simplicity and logic, humans learn their power and along with that are influenced by concepts like greed. Soon the innocent equality that used to exist in the relationship between tree and human is deserted and the tree is left with no say for its own life or worth. Everyday more trees are being killed by people who want to use some part of it for their own personal benefit. A tree that could have been growing for hundreds of years and that had hundreds of memories etched into its core would be killed in an instant without regard for its long life. The most difficult part to understand though is why when we see other human beings being hurt, we rush right to their side. So why then though, is it so easy to walk by a field of tree stumps without even thinking? Perhaps it is time we learn to take a step back from our desires and learn to respect the other life forms that share this planet as well.
