Ethnic Media in a Latino Home

My name is Kimberly Lopez Chavez, an aspiring journalist. As a child of two Mexican immigrants I’ve had a quite extensive experience with ethnic media in Spanish. My parents have spent all my like glued to the 5pm primer Impacto news cast and the 6pm Noticias Univision news cast. My dad has also dabbled in looking at news media outlets from his native state in Mexico, Zacatecas. As technology has advanced we are now able to be fully aware of isses going on there that we would other wise miss. I believe this has caused much of my interest in Latino political issues and influenced the career path I want to take. I am also fluent in two languages, opening up doors for me that otherwise I could never open.
When choosing the three outlets ofcourse, I chose those that interested me and I could possibly relate to the most. The three outlets I was interested in were Impulso de Oaxaca, El Debate and La Prense de Los Angeles. I chose them because I am extremely interested in how they cover media straight from Mexico, and how it differs between state, hence Impulso de Oaxaca and La Prensa. I chose La Prensa de Los Angeles to see the difference in media coverage here in LA. It’s interesting to see the selectivity of stories that these productions make and understanding the underlying factors as to why. As I have delved further into the mediums, I have settled onto learnikng the most on Impulso Oaxaca. While still holding onto my notion to understand their choices of stories with my own knowledge on Lation media I consume daily.
