Hi there Dhyana, if you’re interested in the distinction between personal spiritual practice and teaching what most Americans think of as yoga, read my comment to M. Davies below. I agree, personal spiritual practices that are genuinely personal (not posting on social media about or making money from), are non-harming and non-problematic. It’s when white folks like me start publicly claiming we know what an indigenous tradition is where things start to become problematic. It’s really different to grow up in a tradition with the ancestors and culture that go along with it, than it is to adopt it as a privileged white westerner in later life. The article is a request that we step more lightly and humbly in this territory.
