Dear Medium... Why Didn’t You Ask US?

As an aside, I’m reminded of the great fiasco of 2011, when the site was completely revamped to “increase user engagement” and enraged so many users it nearly collapsed on the day of rollover and has been flagging ever since. Many of us pleaded — BEGGED! — Yahoo to let us PAY THEM for the service instead of selling it off to AVOS, then again begged AVOS to let us PAY THEM to get the old service back. How often does a business have users begging to throw money at them? Not often. Opportunity lost.

But Medium has made it clear they have no intention of learning from the mistakes or successes of other platforms, so I suspect it is only a matter of time before something similar happens.
