That’s it, that’s the issue. While it rarely kills a platform (LJ is doing just fine, and even Yahoo is still…around…) it’s such a substantial loss of possibility, and does give users impetus to jump ship (will FB ever face that calamity, I wonder? Odds say “yes” but it’s still hard to imagine!)

Sadly, I’m seeing some similar issues over on tumblr, which I love, but is profoundly resistant to letting users steer the course of the platform they use every hour of every day, because Staff there “has a vision” they can’t seem to pry their egos away from.
