Up at 3:30am to work on my startup
Where do you find the drive?
I found my ability to wake up at odd times throughout the night to work on my startup, uncanny. Though still tipsy from the night before and expected to be at a conference by 8:30am in the morning, somehow, the voice in my head said, if you want to make it, this is what it takes. Keeping your “safe” job and working on your “dream” job, requires, passion, drive and perseverance. You sometimes think entrepreneurs have it easy, or maybe you’re smart and you know better, but either way, some have it hard. Some have their fame handed to them, while others have to work for it. I’m working for it; every step of the way.
How do you find the drive when you lose hope in your product?
It’s hard. It’s hard to keep going when you’re not sure where your going, but there’s a quote that has stuck with me forever that speaks to this. “Don’t give up on something you can’t stop thinking about”. If your idea was nothing more than a passing thought, then you’ll probably never pursue it, but if you think endlessly about it, then you should probably go for it. I’m constantly doubting myself and my product but then every second, I’m thinking of ways to improve it. My motto, if it’s all you think about, it’s worth trying.
It’s now almost 5am, a new feature is rolling out in a few hours, and I’m scared, but fear is good. It means you’re growing. It means as everyday passes, you’re not afraid to hear what people think. It means, you want to produce something that’s worth someone’s time. It means you’ll wake up at 3:30am to continue pursuing your dream.
