2022 Lenovo Thinkpad Neo 14 Series Model: Specs & Honest Review
When it comes to the Lenovo brand, the Thinkpad model has always been immensely popular among professionals and has received an abundance of positive feedback from its buyers. The Thinkpad is a laptop specifically designed for business purposes and is available in various models. Originally developed and designed by IBM in 1992, this model is notable for its durability, reliability, and business-oriented features. It is frequently lauded for its extended battery life, robust build, and excellent keyboard.
In 2022, Lenovo introduced a new series of the Thinkpad called the Thinkpad Neo 14, which was exclusively released in China. This model is a 14-inch laptop weighing about 1.47 kg. Its dimensions are as follows: 314 mm in length, 219 mm in width, and 17.9 mm in height. The laptop’s body material incorporates a combination of metal (the monitor and base panel) and plastic (the top panel and palm rest), while an aluminum hinge is placed on top of the screen.
It features a blue low-light (TUV EyeSafe certified) for protection of the eyes, face recognition, a fingerprint sensor, and a sliding webcam cover (Thinkshutter) for enhanced privacy. The keyboard is also backlit, with a white backlight that can be adjusted to two different levels of intensity based on the user’s preference. Additionally, it retains the classic “red tracking point,” which is conveniently positioned in the middle of the G, H, and B keys for easy cursor control. However, it should be noted that this particular model does not have a numeric keypad.
For its ports, there is one HDMI 2.1 TMDS and one USB 3.2 Gen 1 available at the back. On the left side, there is a single USB Type 3.2 (Gen 2), USB Type C (4.0), and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Take note that this laptop may not be suitable for individuals who require additional connectivity options, as it lacks an RJ45 connector for Ethernet, an SD card reader, a SIM slot for mobile data, and a CD-Drive.
The trackpad and touchpad of the Thinkpad Neo 14 are designed with two distinct click zones. The left zone is dedicated to selecting and opening items, while the right zone enables for quick access to shortcut menus and context menus, providing users with efficient command execution. In addition, the touchpad is a little wider and supports multi-finger control that can be used for zooming in and out and scrolling up and down.
For the cooling system, this model was designed with efficiency in mind, featuring strategically placed air vents on both the rear and base panel. Additionally, this is equipped with a dual-fan configuration, a thick 2mm heat pipe, and ultra-thin alloy fins measuring only 0.1 mm thick. These components work together seamlessly to ensure optimal heat dissipation and maintain optimal performance even under intense use.
When it comes to battery life, this model shines with fast-charging capability. Thanks to its high-capacity battery, boasting an impressive 57 watt-hour, it can be fully recharged in just one hour. This means the user can quickly power up the laptop and stay more productive. Furthermore, the battery is designed to provide long-lasting performance, lessening worries about running out of power quickly.
For its software, this laptop comes with the latest Windows 11 operating system. It also includes pre-installed essential programs such as Microsoft Office, for productivity tools, and Huorong Internet Security, for digital security.
The Thinkpad Neo 14 is available in both Intel and AMD versions, offering users the flexibility to choose based on their specific preferences and requirements. While the specifications of these two versions differ slightly, detailed specifications for the Intel and AMD versions are provided.
HONEST REVIEW!
As a user, I would like to share the pros and cons of owning a Lenovo Thinkpad Neo 14.
Let’s start with the pros: this mid-range laptop offers superb specifications and solid build quality for a reasonable price (about $1000). As part of the Thinkpad model, it inherits the renowned durability of its body material and the versatility of its keyboard and touchpad. With its fast-charging feature, this laptop significantly reduces the time users need to wait for a complete recharge, as only one hour is needed to fully replenish its battery. Furthermore, this incorporates multiple enhanced security features, ensuring a safer user experience.
Now, onto the cons: it’s noticeable that this model, particularly the base panel and charger, tend to heat up easily when in heavy use and charging. The touchpad’s sensitivity needs a little improvement, as sometimes it requires multiple clicks to operate. Moreover, the keyboard is small, which may take some time to get used to, especially for new users. Additionally, while its RAM is already 16 GB, it is not expandable and not ideal for individuals who want more. Lastly, since the Thinkpad Neo series is relatively new and was exclusively released in China, finding comprehensive reviews and feedbacks before purchasing can be very challenging.
Overall, the Lenovo Thinkpad Neo 14 is a solid mid-range laptop with decent specs, built by a reputable brand under the distinguished Thinkpad umbrella. If you’re a budget-conscious student, gamer, freelancer, or professional, this laptop is for you, as it offers mid-level specs for reliable performance and build quality that won’t easily damage and break in the long run.
