The first tips of communicating in a multi-culture working environment
Working with a multiple cultured team is never a easy job.
I’m thinking how we express the priority precisely, and priority is quite subjective. How about we communicate by “due date”. It’s the way that can be quantified.
For example, we expect a certain due date, communicating with tech team, if they can make it then it’s good. If there is timeframe conflict, PM (usually me or you) discuss resource allocation and give tech team a updated schedule.
As I mentioned to tech team before, I’m okay with the situation that team tell me “we need more time and it can be done on xxxx(date)” UPFRONT,
before telling my client “Yes, we can do it”.
However, once I receive a Yes, I wont feel happy getting a “however/but/excuse” later on, unless the reason is extremely convincing.
It’s because I then need to change my words to the clients, which is the last thing I want it happen. And I know if I cant commit to my promise firmly to my client, they may do the same thing to me for example, postponing the payment due date, giving me bunch of excuses delaying my projects, etc..
Therefore, standing beyond your words- saying “No” upfront, we can work together to sort things out, trying alternatives etc..
It’s what I expect to see.
