Bad Bunny: Truly a Modern Man.

Social media is overloaded with reels of the newly blossoming-and controversial-romance between Bad Bunny and Kendall Jenner. Many demonstrating that Kendall “le falta sauzon” (it’s missing seasoning), others poking fun at the great media stunt Kris Jenner must be trying to pull off-once again using one of her daughter’s sexual wiles-and others expressing sarcasm at women’s (or their own) distress over the relationship.

My question is: are we surprised? Is it truly shocking to us that decisions regarding intimate relationships are made regardless of our core values? We live in the modern hook-up culture along with Bad Bunny and Kendall and what we are seeing from Bad Bunny now, for me, has not strayed from most dating behavior I’ve seen. One that usually prioritizes superficial features over intellectualism and one’s own passion for social issues.

Considering Bad Bunny’s career, do we, as consumers of his music, truly perceive him any differently now than before?

Bad Bunny’s first radio hit in 2017 was “Krippy Kush” which is essentially about smoking weed and sharing it with women. Our introduction to Bad Bunny in the music video showed him as…weird. Beyond that, it’s just the usual substance use, subtle expressions of masculine control and the exploitation of women that we see in most popular music videos today.
