Discover the history of the Earth by taking a trip to Dynamic Earth! See lava and touch a glacier, go on have an explore!

The summer holidays are filled with trips, holidays and adventures. Kindaba is a great way to plan your trips and share your memories with your family all over the world. Kindaba’s Edinburgh Festival Series provides you with our favourite shows, events and top tips to make sure you get the most out of your experience!

Festival shows are great, especially with the impressive range that are performed in Edinburgh during August. However, you just sit on a seat right? Not the best for those little ones who love to run around. Why not take them somewhere they can really get hands on and be a part of displays rather than simply another seat in the audience. We present Dynamic Earth! Located next to the Parliament, at the bottom of the Royal Mile, it is the perfect place to wander to and escape the crowds further up the street. Take a breather from the festival antics and sink your teeth (maybe not literally) into some science!

Dynamic Earth is the place to be for kids and adults alike with a whole range of informative, engaging and interactive displays and exhibits. Fuel that thirst for science and learning by finding out about our planet earth’s life time and appreciate it and its history more than ever.

Start from the very beginning and witness a recreation of the Big Bang by going back with Dynamic Earth’s amazing Time Machine. Move on to see how the Earth has moved and changed and experience the way nature has shaped our planet with exciting exhibits on lava and glaciers. Think you’ll never make it to the Polar Ice Caps? No need to, touch a glacier right here! Find out how humans evolved, and meet the dinosaurs that were left behind. Tired? No time for a stop on this whirlwind ride through the earth’s history! Dive into the oceans in the Yellow Submarine and spot whales and sharks then brace land by taking a trek through the tropical rainforest. Watch out for those crafty monkeys and the spraying waterfalls.

If this isn’t enough, Dynamic Earth has so much more. Go on a 4DVENTURE of the world or experience films in a way you’ve never before in the Showdome. With a 360 degree digital dome technology, this is the only one of its kind in Scotland and its booming surround sound will help you to experience film on a whole new level.

Still not tired? Take the little ones to the Ocean Commotion Soft Play Area, free with Dynamic Earth Tickets, where those under 10 years can dive down to the depths and play with the octopus while you take a well earned rest. Dynamic Earth also hosts a variety of activities throughout the summer from Polar Extremes to Darkside of the Moon, perfect for a rainy day — something that is fairly regular here in Scotland!

The whole of Dynamic Earth is wheelchair accessible and assistance dogs are allowed anywhere in the building. Extra information for exhibits is also offered for those who have impaired vision and transcripts can be collected for those hard of hearing. Please we aware that some exhibits make use of strobe lights, however, guides can advise of their presence in advance.

Audio guides are £2 and are available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. A little tip would be to download the mobile app which also includes more in depth audio tracks for free!

Tickets: Adult (£15) Child 4–15 (£9.50) Concession — Senior/Student (£13) — Buy online and get 10% off! Tickets bought online are non-refundable.

Open 10am-6pm daily at Holyrood Rd, EH8 8AS. 0131 550 7800
