Why I’m pouring my heart into a box

Art heals. I believe that anyone can experience the power of art in their lives, even if they can’t draw a straight line. Especially if they can’t draw a straight line.

See, the most important part of the creative process is not the finished work. The vitality of art is in the making of it.

We often focus on outcomes. What will the painting look like? How will the ceramic bowl match the others in the set? From the beginning of the project, we are staring down the finish line. With high expectations.

What if we pushed aside strict goals and simply began to create? Go ahead and choose the paint or clay or fiber, but forget about the end result for now. Make it up as you go. Lose yourself in the act of creating.

The richness of artistic expression is in the process not the product.
