Art and emotion — Kinga Ogieglo

This painting of mine is called ‘ No privacy’. It shows the anger at someone, sadness or depression, emotions so common in toxic relationships. If you’ve experienced someone in your life who has no empathy, is manipulative and does not see you then you might resonate with this painting. These emotions are uncreative — if you integrate them, remember the trauma and feel them in your body then it will give you even more strenght, knowledge about self, more creativity, and the feeling of ‘katharsis’.

But everyone sees differently and each painting means something else for everyone.

I would also love to think that my art can help people to better understand the impact that their emotions have on their behaviour.

Here are my favourite quotes on art and emotion:

‘It is important to express oneself… provided the feelings are real and are taken from you own experience.’ Berthe Morisot

‘Every work of art which really moves us is in some degree a revelation: it changes us.’ Lawren Harris

‘I am not an abstractionist. I am not interested in the relationship of color or form or anything else. I am interested only in expressing basic human emotions: tragedy, ecstasy, doom, and so on.’ Mark Rothko
