Only Yesterday

Another studio Ghibli movie that moved my heart, why I am writing about it and not another one? Simply because I felt like it and it has been a while since I’ve written something I really missed it, but unfortunately I don’t seem to find time to do so. I know a lame excuse and a lot would say that’s not true, you make time for what you really want. you see I know, but I also don’t know…
Anyway, back to the reason why am here laying down with my PC on my lap.
to be honest, it took me about six hours to finish it, between work, family and other occupations…
However, in its the last hour I sat through the whole thing.
At the beginning I did not fully understand the story, I must say I found it a bit boring a 27 year old woman thinking constantly about her childhood with several meaningless scenes (in my opinion) it went on and on for about an hour so I had to change scene! I spent about 35 min with the family watching “me before you” mmmm that’s another day’s story, but of course if I could find the time.
Then it got interesting, once they started talking about their farming I thought, hey maybe another story about countryside love, but the genre said romance!!! so there must be a love story somewhere. Not too hard to figure out. so I waited about a week for her vacation to end or for her to get serious with the guy, but no. Did I say it was a 1991 movie but magically the Beatles were alive (i know it was telling a story of another time but no…). My point is in that era marriage was not taking slightly so the family must agree and be aware before the second party in this case the “guy”.
The movie ends with her leaving without a word and going back on a promise she gave him earlier that hour about coming back in the winter. We see her getting on the train waving goodbye. Along the way to her seat kids are invading the train, including herself when she was in junior high, once she sits down, she remembers one old mistake that gets her off the train to the farm to reunite with her lover… the end.
I think you can feel that I was not that enthusiastic about it, but hey, I am here to criticize though I love Ghibli movies ;)
Enjoy!
