Asking Time “objectivity”; we have none.
Grumbling from my seat, but nothing else.
It’s sad. But only that. If you’re Mexican I’m pretty sure you’ve already seen this cover of Time Magazine. It’s not bad, I even think it’s very impressive but there’s one problem: it’s not sincere.
According to Mexican goverment official documentation, this cover had a cost of 570 thousand Mexican pesos and it’s nothing but a “publicity and social communication expense”.
I mean, the Mexican goverment paid for this cover and also proposed the text: “Saving Mexico”. Nevertheless, this magazine won’t be launched worlwide. As far as we can see, the “journalist” Michael Crowlay was paid for making some interviews and then the magazine was paid for developing such cover.
Beyond the reaction of people and some Mexican journalist, we can’t complain. Mexican press has always been kidnapped by some kind of particular interest. It doesn’t matter if you try to make objetive journalism, we all know this is a falacy and that won’t ever change.
So, instead of asking some “objectivity” to Time Magazine, why not asking it to our own Mexican Social Media? Why do we have to be so hypocrites?
