PM + No Code + Side project = CEO

Dear PM — imagine having a dev team of 5 – 10 people with an engineering manager who’s not going to say no to anything you say and will cooperate without debate. That is exactly what no code will empower you with.

If you’re of the Product Manager, Product Owner kind, your typical workflow of work looks something like this:

  • Your company wants to get new business by doing something new to expand business
  • Your manager needs to deliver that something
  • You get assigned a % of that something
  • You start working with lots of people, none of whom reports to you – you know the truth to the “CEO of your product” rumour – you know the “managing without authority” situation; and all those other unique things a PM has to deal with, but the biggest chunk of this whole story is working with the engineering team: negotiating, compromising, disagreeing-and-committing, delivering

My guess is, if you’re in Product, you likely enjoy it – the mix of business, tech and design. My guess, also, is that you have always had product and project ideas as a private user or as a business user. Turns out, you likely understand just a bit of all the functions involved in shipping and sustaining product – market research, GTM, support, success – or can teach yourself enough to get going. And yet the actual building of a product has historically required a large engineering team and you couldn’t do much without the team.

Until now.

The tech industry, especially with cloud computing, has evolved tremendously in the last decade where acceleration ruled the industry, not just speed and finally it is time where we’ve reached an inflection point:

today, you can build genuinely sophisticated frontend and backend workflows without a single line of code. No code, as they say.

Guess what that means for you! You can actually become the CEO of your product – even if a side project. Tools like Bubble (or other tools) let you build entire web apps purely without code and you can do it all on your own.

Imagine having a dev team of 5–10 people with an engineering manager who’s not going to say no to anything you say and will abide without debate. That is exactly what no code will empower you with.

You’d debate with yourself – as you should – as you identify features, cost, prioritise and implement. Talk to users, take product to users, iterate. You can build a personal productivity tool, a startup idea or a side gig to generate a second income – or a tool for your own family and friends to discuss movies! Whatever the outcome is, you can get started with no-code – for a motivated product person, there’s no longer a limitation to not do so. So do!
