My interest in software engineering stems from my work as a research scientist at 23andMe. 23andMe collects DNA data from human subjects, and software engineers and computer scientists use various algorithms to predict outcome of a disease, which I found very fascinating. Moreover, I have always been intrigued by things a computer professional can do in fields like data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning. All current and upcoming high tech gadgets such as smart phones, tablets, virtual reality devices, self-driving cars etc requires seamless integration of software into these devices, and software engineering has been increasingly playing a very important role in bringing these products to life. I feel that this is just the beginning of a digital transformation, and I have a strong desire to be part of this revolution.

In order to pursue my dream to become a software engineer, I have been looking at software engineering courses for last one year. However none caught my attention as most of the courses are in the form of boot camps for people like me where an individual is trained for only few days with little to no project based training. Recently one of my colleagues from my previous company told me about Holberton School. After reading more about Holberton School, I was impressed with truly innovative approach to education. In my opinion, Holberton School’s two-year higher education program where importance is given to project-based training and peer learning is revolutionary and probably is the best way to learn something new for a beginner like me.
